Education: University of Costa Rica, Licentiate of Laws (J.D. equivalent) (1998); University of Costa Rica, Master of Science in Criminal Justice (2007); Autonomous University of Barcelona (UAB), Pompeu Fabra University and University of Girona (UdG), Master of Criminology and Criminal Enforcement (2012).
Professional experience: Sebastián Mesén has vast experience in criminal law, acquired during two decades of professional practice as Prosecutor, Public Defender and Law Clerk for the Criminal Appeal Chamber of Costa Rica, with emphasis on challenged rulings. He has also worked in the academic field as professor of Criminal Law at the University of Costa Rica. In addition to his professional career, his academic experience has enabled him to develop a special ability to analyze and synthesize criminal cases, and mainly, to explain those cases to his clients in simple and accessible terms.
